I can do better than a gif!

And yes, as the trailer implied, there is apparently a sequel in the works. Yes, Roland Emmerich, everyone's favourite pyrotechnic German, will be there to have another chance to destroy the Earth. 'Cause f&@$ Earth. And yes, Hollywood has completely stopped putting originality and heart into their movies and is just churning out McDonaldised, inferior knock-offs. 'Cause f&@$ originality and heart.

Dude, Hollywood lost any pretense of originality or heart before I was born, and if I'm not mistaken, I'm the oldest one here.

EDIT: Oh, guess I should include an image or something to keep the chain going, shouldn't I...well then here's the full size version of my avatar, it seems fitting. :P

Me: New Jersey?

GP: (Dismissively) New Jersey.

Me: Ahhhhh :ugeek: :? ...Wait, why's he using a crossbow when they had guns? And isn't Corey from the North? How is it that he fought in the Civil War 150 years ago when he's in his mid thirties today?

GP: Y'all askin' a lotta questions, youngin'.

Me: ...And why'd he ride a giant squirrel instead of a horse like a normal human being?

GP: Oh, so YEW know mah country better than ah do?

GP: I told yew tah git way from dat black box wit the serpents and dirty heathens! It's all lies and witchcraft! The Bible I got here has all the wonder yew could ever need without serpents or witchcraft!

Me: ....Yeeeah. Sure.

(For the record, that's Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead TV series.)

I have to confess that I've gained a greater appreciation for that movie in recent years.

I thought I'd post this next year, seeing as Independence Day has been over for three days now, but I thought: Stuff it. According to this history nut Americans celebrate their independence on the wrong day anyway, so what's the harm in being fashionably late?

If you are interested in history, I'd recommend Crash Course for a quick overview. They're currently covering American history with new episodes (on average) every week.

Yeah, that is technically true. The "real" Independence Day is July 2nd, as that was the day the Declaration of Independence was approved by the first Continental Congress, but the statement was not formally adopted until July 4th. So both dates are significant, but the Fourth was when the document's final wording was approved and the first official copies printed to be published in newspapers and so forth, so that was really the big public unveiling. Hence, when people privately marked the anniversary in the early years before it was made an official holiday, they celebrated on the Fourth because that was the day most of the populace had gotten their first chance to read the Declaration.
