And interesting note, the title in France is the plural for of "the," so it isn't just referencing Rey or Luke as a singular.

The director specifically addressed that in a recent interview, and said that it is actually intended to be singular.

Well, here are some of my spoiler-free thoughts on the movie, after seeing it earlier this evening.

One of my main gripes about Force Awakens (which could actually be viewed as something in its favor, depending on your perspective) was that I thought it leaned a little bit too heavily on Star Wars nostalgia. In a lot of ways, that movie was focused heavily on the past, on bringing it back and resurrecting it.

Interestingly, the focus of Last Jedi is exactly the opposite. It's about putting the past to rest. Wiping it away. Erasing it from memory, even. Kylo Ren's quote in one of the trailers -- "Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to." -- is, in many ways, the overall theme of the entire movie.

It also further explores and expands upon the characters and setting introduced in the previous episode, in a way that's somewhat comparable to what Empire did for the original trilogy. It's not THAT intense, mind you, but there are similar storytelling principles in play. It fleshes significantly more things out about the main characters than the previous movie did, as they grapple with, and eventually come to terms with themselves, and their new situations. There's also a raising of the stakes, in comparison to the previous movie, similar to how Empire demonstrated that the overall situation was much more serious, the threat much more dangerous, and its consequences far more dire, than the previous episode had left us feeling.

So yeah, overall, I enjoyed it a great deal. I think it's a far better movie than Force Awakens was, in all honesty, although right now, I'm not sure where I would rank it in comparison to the previous seven episodes.

[Reveal] Spoiler: The Last Jedi
Zanth and I have had conflicting theories and suspicions about Rey's origins. As it turns out...we were both completely wrong. There are certain aspects of mine that I'm not giving up on just yet, but on a basic level...nope, was way off.
