Re: Christchurch Mosque Terror Attacks

It's taken some time to get to the end, given the lengthy investigation and the COVID outbreak, so let's put a bow on this so we never have to discuss this again. :x The terrorist was sentenced just yesterday to life in prison without possibility of parole. This is New Zealand's harshest possible se...

Re: COVID-19 Pandemic

We went just over 100 days without community transmission, but COVID's coming back for Round Two. Apparently a sick family got the virus from an as of yet unknown source, and went all over the country before they were discovered as carriers. As a result, Auckland has gone back into lockdown at Level...

Re: U.S. Election 2020: "It's all a joke."

[First, an outbreak of a virus from China threw the country into a panic and prompted the government to destroy our economy, which caused more than forty-four million people to lose their jobs and decimated countless industries. Then the same government decided to spend several trillion dollars to ...

Re: COVID-19 Pandemic

Speaking only for myself, I lost a month of work in April and at least one friendship, the latter of which still baffles me, but have otherwise been mostly unaffected by this whole mess. The biggest impact it's had on me, in fact, has been how depressing and demoralizing it's been to watch much of ...

I honestly thought the site was deleted or something, it was down for so long.

It looks less boring, I guess? :?

Sooo, it's been a few months. Was beginning to think the site had been shut down. I'm compelled to ask: how's everyone doing?

Re: COVID-19 Pandemic

We have 11 cases over here, all from people arriving from overseas. No community transmission yet, nor have there been deaths. As I said earlier, all overseas visitors and Kiwis returning home have to go into self-isolation for 14 days upon arrival, and any who ignore this or refuse will be arrested...

COVID-19 Pandemic

So... how is everyone? :| I'm currently fine. My parents are a little stressed, but coping. New Zealand's currently going into a hardline lockdown over this pandemic , with large events being cancelled left and right, and anyone coming here having to go into mandatory self-isolation for 14 days, exc...

Re: Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

It was actually better than I was expecting, but my expectations WERE very low. The plot was...um...yeah. :? Still, many of the little character moments really did work, and throughout the movie, I found that I kept thinking to myself "This is exactly what TLJ should have been." If they'd kept the ...

There's a great little graphic that the ABC has put together that gives a much better visual aid than I could have given. Just scroll down slowly.

Re: Whakaari Eruption

We haven't made any movies about any of our eruptions. Not even our most famous one when Mt Tarawera erupted in 1886 , killing c. 120 people (a conservative estimate) and destroying the Eighth Wonder of the World . I doubt this will be any different. The official toll is currently 15, but this could...

Whakaari Eruption

Whakaari (White Island) should be a goddamn case study on learning where to draw the line on casual visitors approaching an active volcano. The sad news is that a few days ago, the volcano erupted while tourists were visiting the island. So far we have 16 confirmed fatalities and many more suffering...

Re: Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy: "no source material" for Star Wars

I mentioned Kreia in the previous post, and I just couldn't help it. I HAD to add this video about her, since it's an amazing analysis that's well worth watching the whole way through, and because when else am I going to get the chance to throw a spotlight on her? But before you freak out over how r...

Re: Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy: "no source material" for Star Wars

Nearly 40 years of material, of living pop-culture, Thanos-snapped by the Mouse. This is where everything went wrong. The seminal catastrophe that has doomed Star Wars. And what have the consequences been from this radical, iconoclastic, hubristic act? The comic books are outright stealing fanart an...

Who wants a Fruit-E Bar? :rbg: u51OxZF1ltI Surprise! Fruit-E Bars don't exist, but falls in your home do. I've been told that PSAs like these aren't very common in the States, and are unusual even. Here in NZ and Australia, these are common and we've grown up with them. Some PSAs are downright distu...

Re: Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

Who even cares at this point? :| My mind has not changed since I first made this thread. I think Star Wars is done. We've had our fun, the franchise has had its time, and now Disney is driving the fanbase away. It will never again possess the cultural impact and influence it once had. Because - and ...

Re: "Perfect" 10s

I never give games a 10/10 because I feel that score represents perfection, an ultimate goal to aspire to, but something that will forever remain out of reach. The thought of us humans producing something utterly flawless when we ourselves are hopelessly flawed is a pipe dream. That said, a great ga...

Re: Is War with Iran inevitable?

We've already established that the possibility of a US invasion of Iran, at any time in the foreseeable future, is less than zero so I have no idea why you're continuing to flog that specific straw man. Is it a strawman argument when you have a president that is wildly belligerent in rhetoric and t...

Re: Is War with Iran inevitable?

Personally, I'm inclined to think it will ultimately make an escalating conflict more likely, not less, in the same way that Chamberlain's appeasement of Hitler paved the way to World War II. And we've already come to Nazi comparisons. That didn't take long. From what I've seen, Iran is hard...
