One of my earliest and biggest childhood fascinations was always Godzilla. Next to Star Wars, Toho's iconic movie monster has occupied a special place in my imagination for as long as I can remember, even as ridiculously awful as some of the movies were.

An effort by a non-Japanese studio to "reboot" the legendary city-stomper on the big screen has apparently been underway for several years, and is finally set to hit theatres next year (2014). A previous attempt at the end of the last century was, to put it very mildly, less than successful. And so a degree of wariness is highly understandable. But I have to say, after watching the following teaser trailer, I am damned excited by the direction they appear to be taking.

Needless to say, this ain't no rubber monster movie, and it ain't no cheesy-ass Matthew Broderick bullshit, either.

The music from 2001: A Space Odyssey is also a nice touch.

At least it looks like Godzilla this time.

More than any other single thing, that final shot sells me. :rbg:

This looks watchable at least. I find it hard to be excited about any Godzilla flick that isn't a big rubber suit, and those just because they're fun to watch despite being awful films.

I'm excited about this because it looks like it could potentially be the first truly good Godzilla movie, by an objective measurement, since...probably the very first one, really.

Potentially.

Two more trailers:

The more I see of this, the better it looks. I'm really excited about it.

There is another new trailer for the upcoming Godzilla movie, and it is pretty damned exciting.

Well, I just got home from what is without any question or doubt THE best Godzilla movie I have ever seen. And I've seen most of them. So, highly recommended, indeed.

This seems appropriate.

If you're at all interested in seeing this movie, I strongly recommend going to see it in the theatre. While there are many cases where I don't think there's necessarily enough of a distinction to justify the extra ticket price, in this case it is definitely worth it to see Godzilla on the biggest screen you can, and for a very specific reason. Being able to not only hear, but also to feel his distinctive roar as it reverberates through the building really does add a whole other dimension to the experience, and makes the whole thing that much more awe-inspiring.

I just saw it today. It was pretty good. Could've used more giant monster fighting, but was a pretty cool flick.

It has been announced that the inevitable Godzilla sequel will include Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah. Gareth Edwards will also return to direct.

Ever wondered how the new Godzilla would look as an 8-bit video game? Well...wonder no more!
